First and foremost, I have enjoyed reading all the invaluable information (although dizzying) on this site. I am amazed at how friendly, supportive and encouraging all the members are and I am excited to join the TFP club.
I have a 16x36 IG vinyl pool with a loop loc cover which hasn't been open in 4yrs (i know, i know...feel free to shake your heads and yell..i deserve it). Pool was opened at the end of June and although the water was surprisingly clearer (light green and murky) than I thought it was going to be, the years of dirt and debris that accumulated on the bottom was quite discouraging. The coping was also detached in some areas. Shock and chlorine was added to clear water and coping was fixed. Pool was power vac 2x and I am proud to report that the water is now a clear(ish) and blue(ish).
After reading many threads and articles on this site, I ordered the TF-100 and SpeedStir on Tuesday. However, for the time being I am forced to test water with the PS guys.
Here are my numbers as of this morning
FAC and TAC - 5 (could very well be higher but PS readings cap at 5)
pH - 7.4
TA - 90
CYA - 30
CH - 150
TDS - 350
Phos - 0
I am going to throw my lil man (dolphin) in to hopefully clean the the leftover particles after power vac last night but pool will most likely need another power vac in the next couple of days.
PS recommended 4lbs conditioner (leave filter running 24hrs) and in 48hrs, 15lbs of hardness. If power vac is to be done in next couple of days, do I bother adding the chemicals now or just wait until after power vac.
In anticipation to convert to the TFPC method, I currently have the following chemicals on hand;
(4) 121oz jugs of 8.25% bleach
(2) 4lbs 12oz boxes of Borax
(4) 4lb boxes of baking soda
Leftover PS chemicals;
8lbs conditioner
45lb Hardness Plus
Would love to hear your thoughts of what is really needed based on the above number readings. I am going to attempt to post pics so please be patient and stay tuned.
