life expectancy of pump and filter

Is there a ballpark figure for how long pump and filter should last? Ours only gets used about4 months maximum a year.

Re: life expectancy of pump and filter

There are lots of variables involved such as, exposure to weather, quality of water, where it is stored. Then there are two sections of the pump, the wet end and the motor. Motors normally need replacement before the wet end. Five to ten years is not unheard of for the motor to last. Most people replace the whole pump when they only need to replace the motor. You can put a two speed motor on a pump that originally came with a single speed (or even a VSM) to save energy.

thanks for the welcome, hope this helps
25,000 gal in ground concrete kidney shaped swimming pool approx. 25 years old with EC65 earth filter & a Hayward pump (I think it is a 1 1/2 Hp). Pump and filter are housed in shed out of the elements. Plumbing is 1 1/2 inch PVC pipe
