Adding DE after backwash

Okay, I have to ask. I know the conventional wisdom on this sight is to add a percentage (haven't looked up the number yet) of the required DE after a backwash. Seems logical. It's obvious that all of the DE will not leave the filter after a backwash, but should I override the instructions of the manufacturer? They say to add 100% (4 lbs) after I backwash.

Thanks,
Ed

Yours is a bump-type DE filter, so it isn't backwashed in the same manner as a screen type. I would hope the banging would knock the DE off better than just running the water through backwards like a conventional filter. Don;t know what to tell you.

You might want to change the thread title to reflect the bump type filter and hope someone with first hand experience sees it.
