I have a 20,000 gallon pool with a vinyl liner. My total hardness is low 88. The pool store said to add 5lbs of product when the read out sheet said to add 17lbs. I find that interesting. Do you have any insight on hardness and suggestions on what I should do?
Thanks! Lisa

Do nothing. Save your money and invest it in your own test kit. Then you'll only need to visit the pool store for obscure bits of hardware.

Your vinyl liner will not get etched by having Calcium leached out of it the way a plaster pool will. You could have zero Calcium Hardness and it wouldn't matter.

I'm sure others will chime in soon, but I don't think you need to add anything. CH realy odes noting for a vinyl pool other than increase pool store profits.

If you had a gunite/concrete or even a fiberglass pool low CH can cause problems.

Oh, welcome to TFPC. Stick around and learn how to save money.
