I have a clear pool with mustard algae aswell however i don't currently have a testing kit i have never needed one up until this point.

I am going to be blunt with you here, but please hear no disrespect.

The reason you have an MA issue is because you have not used a proper kit to check and maintain adequate Free Chlorine consistently. Doing so will prevent getting Algae and advanced versions such as Mustard or Black Algae.
