I just finished filling my new pool. Is there a thread here that explains the steps in order of what to do to begin your water maintenance? Do I put in the salt first?

You can put salt in any time. Give the salt 24 hours to mix in before turning on the SWG.
For this evening, adjust the PH to between 7.2 and 7.8, then add 2 ppm of chlorine.
Then in either order, raise CYA to around 50 to start, adjust TA if needed. In a week test CYA and adjust to the 70 to 80 range.
