You're in an enviable position, actually. You get to start fresh, unlike the majority of people who find this place after their wallet has been bled dry and the pool is dark and evil-looking.
There's a big investment up front - besides the test kit, you'll need the tools: a pole, a brush, a vacuum. And toys. And towels. And then some kind of rack to hang the towels. Most of that stuff is a one-time thing.
If you get the water adjusted right at the outset, your daily maintenance will be maybe five minutes, and another half an hour once a week or so to vacuum.
If the installers don't balance the water (And I'd prefer to do it myself anyway) you know you'll need some stabilizer (CYA) and you'll know you'll need some chlorine. Now is the time to hunt for the best prices.
Make sure the pool is level and the liner isn't wrinkled before the installers leave with their check. Remember the Golden Rule: whoever has the gold, makes the rules. Once they have the gold, you play by their rules. It's better that they play by your rules.
