Can old sand cause the filter to gurgle?

    Re: Sand

    No.

Sand was already a million years old when it was bagged up to sell you. A few years inside your filter is nothing.

Gurgling is probably trapped air. Check that the water level is high enough that the skimmer isn't creating a vortex and that the skimmer flapper isn't jammed somehow.

I did check all of that and if anything the water is too high. I just can't figure it out.

What does the manual say? It has to be available online somewhere.

Oh I know you have to change it but was wondering is it every 3 or 4 years?

    Re: Sand

No. You actually don't. You can deep clean it or acid clean it to remove excessive build up but actually needing to change sand is rare. Such as when converting from Bacquacil to chlorine.

    Re: Sand

I rather just change the sand rather the cleaning it. Sand is only $9.00 for 50 pounds and it takes less than 1 hour to change it. I had my pool since 2011 and I have changed it once already, today matter of fact. Just vacuum the old sand out and replace it.

    Re: Sand

And it takes 15 minutes and no money to run a hose through the sand to clean it.
