I'm new to cartridge filters.
I see videos of people cleaning the cartridges by hosing the outside of the pleats.

If I understand correctly the circulation in my filter, flow takes place from the outside perimeter of the cartridge toward the inside.
If this is so, won't directing the hose flow against the pleats just embed the particulates farther into the pleats?

You hold the hose so the spray hits the cartridge at a downward angle, washing the debris down towards the ground. It is very unusual for anything to embed enough to not wash off easily. In those rare cases you can pretty much always brush whatever it is off by hand very easily.
