Need to start SLAM process, but PH is 7.8. So should I lower it first or just start dumping in bleach (recommended amounts of course) and get dead armed from brushing?

Pool School will tell you that 7.8 is on the high side but still within an acceptable range of 7.2 - 7.8.

Started and brushed for 45 minutes...checking FC one more time, then heading to bed with my arms feeling 2 inches longer.
So...8:30 last night- my CYA is about a 35, so I added the appropriate amount of bleach and brushed twice before midnight. 12 hours later the over night test showed no loss of FC less than .5 of CC yet I've still got brown dirt/residue on the bottom of the pool. I honestly thought it was algae, but now have my doubts. I just read about others having similar problems from Cottonwood trees, and boy are they in full bloom right now...could this be the reason I continue to have dirt/residue on the bottom of the pool, especially at the corners and creases?
Pool is clear, except for the residue, wife says its very gritty, not slimy.
Thoughts?

I can do that! And just to make sure I'm on the same page, FC is staying the same over night meaning that its not an algae problem, correct?
