2 speed vs 1 speed

I have a 2 speed pump that the pool store said runs 24/7 at low speed. Some places sell 1 speed pumps that just run for a short period of time. Which is better? Do 2 speed pumps need to run 24/7?

There is no point in running any pump 24/7 for a residential pool. A typical residential pool only need four hours, or a little more, of pump run time.

Two speed pumps can save you a dramatic amount of electricity, since lower speeds are always more efficient.
