Foam under the liner.........why?

Please enlighten me as to why one would put foam under a pool liner? Besides making a barrier, what else purpose would it serve?

To make it softer on your feet and it won't shift or wash away like sand can on certain styles of pools.

To me it is all about the feel. Barrier protection is an added bonus!

Foam creates a nice pool floor, it also protects the liner floor, and sand like poobears says can wash away from underneath intex type pools but if you're going with a round pool with a steel wall sand works well in those situations as the sand is contained within the wall
