    How often should I test CYA during SLAM?

    How often should I test the CYA during the SLAM process?
    18,000 gallon IG vinyl
    Hayward S220T sand filter, replaced sand 2013
    Sta-Rite pump, 1HP?
    New liner, 5/12; pool built in 1981;

    None. Should be tested before to determine SLAM FC target. If you add any to increase CYA before SLAM, assume what you added is in there and base SLAM level on that.

    If you've lost enough water during backwashing that you replaced a noticeable percentage of water, it would be a good idea. Say... 6" or more.

    Troublefree does not mean Maintenancefree. It's like brushing your teeth: You can spend a couple minutes a day and pennies a week or go to the dentist once a year and spend several thousand dollars.
    A pool is like a pet - you have to feed it every day, even the days you don't want to play with it!

    If the water was murky when you did the initial CYA test, it's worth trying again once the water is a bit clearer.
