How often should I bump my DE filter?

Currently trying to SLAM my pool and I wanted to ask about my filter. We have an EC30 Hayward Perflex and are trying to deswamp. When we use the vacuum after literally one or two minutes the PSI goes from 0-15 and has to be bumped. Is this normal? Gone thru 30 lbs since Friday.

Yes, normal. DE filters clog up quickly when cleaning up algae. It is their largest disadvantage. The counter point is that they clean up the water quickly compared to other kinds of filters.

Like Jason says it is a trade off, personally I would rather have a filter that clogs up quickly vs one that takes weeks to clear a cloudy pool

I just hope as the debris lightens up, the filter can go longer. Literally it's a two man thing. We can't leave the pump on when we leave the house or at night. Even when regular filtering without the vacuum on. Half hour tops before everything starts slowing.
