TFT CYA Shelf Life in cold garage....

In attempting to get the pool going, went to test CYA and realized I could not find it...as it was left in the garage. I thought I had read that the chemical agent it uses is fairly stable, but should I trust it after being left in the cold?

That was my intro to TFP a couple years back, met by buying a way overpriced test kit at a big box store only to purchase the CYA test from TFT to find out I needed to drain and refill to correct the problem.

Ah, the old days...and I would rather not go back there.

Are you awake yet?

Did it freeze? If not, that is one of the most stable reagents, so I would think it should be fine. Have you tried to test with it yet?

Oops....thought he meant the stabilizer itself.

My bet is that reagent is fine. It is very stable and should give the results you are expecting.

Since I am in the Midwest, it either froze or turned into a slushy. I can only presume it did, would not want to assume anything. ;-)

Also, it tests that I am currently - CYA: 30

What CYA were you expecting? What were you at the end of last year? How much did you drain for closing.

I wish I knew...lost my test results for last two years, so starting over. I seem to recall about 35, though I did not drain much water, about a foot, to just below skimmer ( I use a skimmer cover). Kind of running blind.
