I thought it was only important for concrete pools because it pulled the calcium out of the walls of the pool. I never thought about the gelcoat. The lady at the pool store told me I didn't need to worry about CH because my pool is fiberglass. Right now it is about 150. I guess I should raise it. Thanks for the info!!
Who knows? Contact San Juan Pools and ask. I think it's usually old pools that needed Calcium. You're almost there, anyway. CH will go up with evaporation. If you're worried, just use Cal-hypo instead of bleach to chlorinate until you reach 200, and then switch back to bleach.
