can i use my old pool filter sand for a sandbox?

or is it different kind of sand not good for kids to play in? any negatives at all?

Play sand has much larger particles than filter sand. I'm not sure why that is, but I presume there is a reason.

just checked my sons sandbox, the sand in there is super fine, way smaller than the pool filter sand.

couldn't i just dump the sand on my lawn and spread it out?

I think ... filter sand is devoid of any of the silica dust that is bad for playing in ... after all it has been washed a LOT. So I think would be fine to play in. Or spread it in the lawn.
