Stuck freeze plug in wall return of above ground pool

Opening of pool, and the freeze plug in the wall return of our above ground pool is stuck. I have even drained below return line thinking I could better grib the plug, but no luck. Any suggestions. Can the return line assembly br removed from the wall without causing more problems and the replaced?
