or maybe it is a matter of opinion.

My SWG is broken. I am going to call Intex today and depending on what they say may order a new one off Amazon. I have been testing the chlorine twice a day. The level doesn't seem to have dropped much in the last 36 hours, which is good. Should I still be adding bleach anyway, or if there is no demand for it, then there is no reason to add it?

You need to maintain adequate chlorine depending on your CYA level. If there is already enough, then no need to add it. Use the bleach numbers and not the SWG numbers until you replace the SWG.
