Would this ruin my filter? If not, what do I use?

Not even sure that this belongs in this forum, but it has to do with my filter. My filter is an older one and the fiberglass really bothers my skin when I touch it. I was doing some work on it today and I wore my gloves, but despite being careful I touched the cover with the inside of my arm and with my thigh and both have big red welts. Could I spray clear spray paint or something on the outside of the filter to seal in the fibers? Thoughts? I have 0 experience with fiberglass.

I guess you get to be the guinea pig! I don't see why not; people paint the PVC pipes. Just don't paint over the labels.
