High PH with cold water...spring opening.

Hi Folks;

Just removed Loop-Lok cover last nite.

Usual dark green swamp!!!

This morning tests show high PH.

The test #'s
Temp: 52*
FC: 0
CC: 0
TC: 0
PH: 8.2
TA: 50
CH: Vinyl
CYA: <20 (cloudy but can just see black dot)

1. Is high PH caused by the cold water temp?
2. Do I need to lower PH before starting to "Shock and Hold"?
2. I use liquid Chlorine to open and shock, pucks for maintenance, so CYA slowly climbs thru the season(May-Sept. 1st.)....so do i need to raise the CYA
before I start the "Shock and Hold"?

Thanks again for the awesome resource this website and to it's Mod's and members.

Have a Great Day,
Dave

1. Temp has little effect. You could always let sample warm to room temp for confirmation but it'll be close to the same.

2. We call it SLAM, but yes

3. I would say no. You want the CYA up to around 30 ppm to SLAM properly and the pucks will take too long for that to happen.
