We have an Intex Ultra Frame Pool. Thinking about installing a skimmer. I'm wondering how advisable it is to cut a hole in the liner. It just doesn't seem right to me, but I know many of you have. Everywhere on the liner where the manufacturer puts a hole the liner it's reinforced. When you cut a hole in the liner is there a way to reinforce around it like the manufacturer does? Is it not necessary? Does it worry any of you that it might one day give out and tear. Any words of wisdom from those who have or those who won't do it would be appreciated. I would like to do it as well but I'm afraid of the idea of cutting that hole. Thank you.

I too would love to know if there is any advice. From what I read is that you push all the screws in through the liners first, tighten them up and then cut the hole. Just make sure that the water level up by where you want the skimmer to go before installation. This is suppose to help with making sure that the liner is stretch out.

Vicsin, if you don't want to cut the liner, don't do it.... Wait a year, if you are not comfortable.... There are literally hundreds of people with intex pools that have installed through the wall skimmers.... Mostly Hayward ones.... No one has had a problem yet..... The Pro Series of pools which are just a replica or rip off of Intex, sell their pools with through the wall skimmers as part of their package... Those skimmers are no where near as good as the Hayward ones....
My pool liner hasn't even had water in it, brand spanking new and I cut it for new intake return inlets..... As long as you are careful, take your time, you'll have no problems... I'm not installing my through the wall skimmer until there is water in the pool.... Its a bigger hole and I want to make sure the pool is set up correctly before cutting it.... I hope this helps....

As for pumps, you need at least a 1hp pump for your size pool, anything bigger would be overkill unless you plan on adding a waterfall, or a few other things that require pressure... The Intex 2650 sand filter would be plenty as would the Hayward c550

Just did it and everything went smoothly. I'm not even slightly concerned about the fact that I cut the liner.
