Stand-pipe O Ring Missing

Just noticed that the O ring on the stand-pipe inside my Pentair DE filter is missing. Is that a serious/mild issue? I've had some type of leak going on, but there is no water around the filter unit.

I have ordered the part, but wonder if I should not run the filter until I have the O-ring.

For those who know this unit well, it's part # 27.

You may get debris/DE passing through the filter without the o ring. Up to you if that is serious or not.

I never used a DE filter but I wonder if you could wrap a few layers of electrical tape until you get to the right thickness and use that until the part comes in.
