    pool ground wire???

Hi, we have a 12 x 23 ft oval pool. we also have a pool thermopump besides the motor etc.. My question is where does the ground wire have to be connected as what we can see now is the ground wire just goes behine one of the feet of the pool and it is not connected anywhere.. am terrified of pools and electrical to do with pools, how can we safely know or hook up for everyone to swim in our pool. We bought this house last summer and the pool (NEW) came with it and we know nothing about pools.... thanks

    Welcome to TFP!

You are talking about the bond wire. On an AG pool, it will generally be connected to the metal parts of the pool itself, and then run to the pump area. Many AG pools are double-insulated and don't require bonding, but code requires that the electrician run a bond wire to the area of the pump for future use if the pump is replaced.

    Welcome to TFP!

There is grounding, and there is bonding, where are two completely unrelated things. It sounds like you have them blurred together.

Grounding is the green wire that runs in power cords along with the power wires. All of the pool related electrical appliances should be grounded.

Bonding is a separate wire that runs in a full circle around the pool and is connected to everything metal that comes within 5 feet of open water, or is in direct contact with the water, including the pump, heater, and any metal parts in the pool frame.

Chances are the wire you are talking about is part of the bonding system. Since most of the bonding system should be buried below ground, it is difficult to confirm that it is properly installed without some digging. It is fairly safe to assume that it was done correctly when the pool was first installed.
