leaky hayward sp-733 dial-a-flo

Last year I bought a Hayward SP-733 to replace an old one, and now it's leaking air. When I turn off my pump I can hear the air go thru the handle. I've taken it apart and lubed it to no avail. Does anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?

as you can see below has a white washer, but my valve doesn't have it. Where does it go? it's not clear from the diagrams.
