    How often to change sand in filter

    How often is it necessary to change the sand? Have only had our pool 1 1/2 seasons.

    ABG 24', 2hp pump
    AG 24' ( Columbia PL30-6 sand filter), 2hp 2 sp pump, cholorine, Tennessee
    Taylor k- 2006 test kit

    Short answer ... never ... unless you let the chemistry get WAY out of whack and it clogs up with calcium scale.

    It is a good idea to inspect it and do a sand cleaning every year or so. See this post:

    Like Jason said never, there have been detailed message threads on this including examination of the sand under a microscope from samples taken from 25-30 year old sand filters that found it nearly indistinguishable from new sand.
