My pH is constantly increasing to 8.0-8.2 every few days. I add about 16 oz of acid every other day. Is this normal?

If your plaster is less than one year old, then yes more or less normal. If your plaster is older then your TA is probably too high.

    Re: pH.....

If your fill water (TA 220) is like mine in west Houston (Memorial Villages) you will have a hard time keeping your TA in the 60-70 zone required to keep pH from rising. That, coupled with my SWG, makes my pH continually rise. During the swim season I add about 30 oz. each week to keep my pH in range and my pool is over three years old. But that's about all I do to keep my pool in good shape other than the occasional topping up of CYA, borates, and CL after a lot of rain.
