    strainer knob

I was loosening my strainer knob and it broke. I see that I can order that part, but I don't know how to remove the old one and insert the new one. Can somebody help me out?

    thanks

I believe I need part 21 from the link http://www.poolcenter.com/p/hayward-...knob-spx1600pn

Is there any part of the old one sticking out of the threads that you can get a pair of pliers on?

yes. What broke apart was the plastic piece which is/was attached to the metal "spikes" that are now sticking out.
