Where to buy filter sand in eastern Virginia?

    Hi All,

I'm working on some very old TR140 filters for our community pool. I need to replace some broken laterals and was going to replace the sand while I'm at it. I have 4 filters to do for a whopping 3700 lbs of sand. Can anyone recommend a source in eastern Virginia (Hampton Roads area) for purchasing sand in bulk?

    Thanks!

    Welcome to TFP

I would try to find a pool builder supplier/wholesaler that would be willing to help you out.

Call the local dirt yard and see if they have #20 silica sand and what kind of deal they can give you, then compare the price to the packaged pool filter sand and see which is a better deal. Since you are buying so much a pool store may be willing to give you a discount. If you buy from a dirt yard it will likely not be packaged and you will need a large enough protected area to store it until it is ready to be used.

Thanks Brushpup and zea3 - I'll start callling the local wholesale suppliers and dirt yards and see what I can come up with. Bound to be better than trying to buy that much off the shelf at the home depot!
