Moving from pressure to robotic cleaner

Hello, we just purchased a new robotic pool cleaner to replace a very old polaris pressure cleaner.
I was told we could just leave the return inlet that connected to the in-pool cleaner running, absent the old cleaner attached. But is this the most efficient use of energy given one benefit of the robotic system is lower energy use?

What are our options for the old booster pump? Could we just leave it in place, and let it pump water through the old inlet, or do we need to remove the booster and cap the return inlet?

(We are new pool owners, so forgive me on the lack of terminology)

Welcome to TFP!!!

There is certainly no need to run the booster pump without a pressure side cleaner ... that would be a waste of money.
At a minimum, you could just disconnect the power from the booster motor and leave the plumbing as is.

Or you could cap the return in the pool, Or you could maybe turn the pipe run into another return jet running off your main pump.
