Multiport valve

I have a neighbor with a Triton sand filter. The multiport valve is pretty old it's the knid with 2 small pins on the bottom and the grooved channel that runs the length and you pull up to backwash but I don't see any rinse position. Also on a hayward multiport on a DE there doesn't seems to be a rinse slot there either, or I m missing something.

You're most likely talking about a slide valve and if so, they don't have a rinse position. They only have filter and backwash positions.

If you can post a pic or supply model numbers of both valves we'll know more what we're dealing with.
