Drain Pool?

I need to drain some water because my CYA levels are pretty high. Given my equipment, what's the preferred/easiest/best method of draining some water? Also, what's an appropriate amount to drain and refill with fresh water?

Insufficient data.

First question: what is your current CYA reading, where did it come from, and what is your target?
Second: Do you have a multiport valve on your filter?
Third: Can you isolate the main drain in your pool?

Richard, here are my values:



I'm very new to this so I'm trying to figure out what to do and the best way to do it. I do have a multiport valve. There appear to be 2 drains on the deep end of the pool, not sure which is which, but they are only a couple of feet apart.

We put very little trust in pool store testing, especially the CYA test. You would be better served by investing in one of the recommended test kits and posting up those numbers before you start making decisions.

The CYA test maxes out at 100 so it could actually be much higher. Get a kit and we can teach you how to estimate higher levels so you know how much water needs to be replaced.

BTW, if your CYA is 100ppm, then your FC is WAY too low. You would need to keep it above 7ppm to prevent algae ... pool stores just do not seem to grasp the CYA/FC relationship. See: FC/CYA Chart
