Changing speed on 2 speed pump

Installed a new 2 speed pump this week that I plan to run on low speed 95% of the time. My question is do I need to shut the pump down when changing speeds or just flip the switch and change on the fly?

You should be able to simply switch the switch to change speeds without turning the pump off. Of course the speed switch often has a middle position is off design, so at some level you are turning it off, but it isn't anything you need to think about.

You can change on the fly. I have mine on an automatic speed switching timer so it switches the speeds a couple times during the day to get some skimmer action.

Thanks for your responses. I changed the speed from high to low and the pump made a "clunk" noise. I didn't even think about the ones that switch on a timer. Just wanted to not damage my new pump.
