    What is this? A chlorinator?

I am a long time lurker and first time poster, I have learned just about everything from you guys! I have an in ground pool and spa that are connected by a waterfall. When the spa was turned on I found that it was emptying to the pool. I closed the valve on this thing and it solved the problem. It seems to still be leaking a bit and I was thinking about just plugging it up rather than trying to tighten the valve. Do you guys think that this is a good idea? Thanks!

It might be a one way check valve, I can't really tell from that photo though

Looks like a check valve to me too. Does it have an arrow on it anywhere?

If it's a check valve, you could probably do a neat looking fix by unscrewing both valves (assuming the are both threaded) and then connecting back straight across with pvc pipe
