looking for pump for my pool

i am searching for a pump for my new pool. looking everywhere for the best deal. best price I am finding right now is for this one
    Hayward TriStar Pump 1.5HP Max Rated 2-Speed In-Ground Pool Pump - SP3220X252
It would be around $450. I am going to have a 17k gallon in ground pool. This seems a bit high on HP but it actually is more expensive to go with a lower hp 2 speed motor from what I am seeing. Any thoughts on this? I will be getting a sand filter to fit. appreciate any feedback you can give in this.

I think the Tristar pump is a high efficiency/performance pump which recommends a minimum of 2 inch pipe, and preferably 2.5 inch pipe. 1.5HP is overkill on your size pool. Any water features???

no water features at all. just simple pool. really would like to find a 3/4 hp 2 speed pump but cant seem to find one anywhere that is a reasonable price.

The 1HP 2 speed Superflo would be a good fit, should be around $400.

http://www.saveonpoolsupplies.com/Po...-Ground-Pools/ Just noticed this may be a single speed pump. Have to double check.

check ebay, I have often found good prices there during the off season (which is about to end) on such equipment. I would also say look for a 1 HP 2 speed for your size pool

I don't think the pump brand matters. I have the Jandy that I posted the link to, but it is new so I can't attest to its reliability. I had considered the Pentair, but the Jandy was a better price. For a sand filter you would want 3.69 sq ft or larger. Something like a Hayward S270T.
