SGM" Southern Grout and Mortar- Ultra Pearl Brite pool surface finish = algae resist

Has anyone used or know about this premium pool material product Ultra Pearl Brite manufactured by SGM- a world leader in the pool material industry?? It cites as a benefit being algae resistant - They have a web site SGM.cc

WE recently had our pool resurfaced with this material and within two weeks after the start-up our crstal clear pool had alage growing on the walls-

so far we are not sure if the pool applicator did not use the materials we paid for - one observation was that in the prep the applicator did not follow the manufacturer gudelines of using the bonding agent BONDKOTE and instaed used plaster that was applied by brush splatter which covered at most 40% of surface and had a very irregular profile (volcanic rock) from 0"-3/4" thick - the removal of old plaster and algae was done by water power wash and that was the extent of it-

Can old algae grow through the new plaster/quartz pool material as mold does in grout lines??

Besides the algae problem and discoloration some of the surface material is cracking-

    Any advise??

    Welcome to TFP!!!

I don't think algae would grow from underneath. Algae is generally due to not enough chlorine in the water. So, to help, you are going to have to post up your full set of test results and what kit you used to get them.

The key is your CYA level as that determines what FC level that must be maintained to prevent algae. See the FC/CYA Chart. No "special" coating will change our recommended FC levels.

    Welcome to TFP Esteban!

I agree, the Algae could not grow from beneath. There is no pool plaster/finish that will keep Algae from growing. It's all a matter of nutrient, light, and lack of Chlorine that allows it grow.

Chlorine will stop it better than anything around.
