I have a similar filter grid replacement question along those same lines. I have a ~15 year old Pentair FNS 60 DE filter. Grids have lasted all this time, but now I'm getting DE into the pool and the plan is to replace all the grids. Internet search comes up with this for an FNS "Plus" 60 (Pentair # 59023300):

Whereas my old filter manual calls for part 195070 that I found here:

This part is much more expensive than the first one.

A call to the merchants helpline said the 59023300 part would work....but, why the difference? Anyone out there used one of these less expensive grid kits on an older FNS model with any success? What's the difference between an "FNS" and a FNS Plus"?

I think that the more expensive set includes the manifold, bottom retainer and threaded rods. If you only need the grids, then the less expensive set will work.

Nope, I have called to confirm, both sets have the manifolds/associated hardware and are billed as a "drop in" direct replacement...only I can't divine the "FNS"/"FNS Plus" difference. Another call to a another web provider says the thing will fit...but...I hate dealing with send-backs.

The lower price is about right for just the grids without the other parts. The higher price is about right for the grid set with the other parts. Perhaps it's a mistake, I don't know. It could be that the fns is more expensive because it's older.

I think that the fns plus manifold and bottom retainer are different from the fns. I'm not sure if they are interchangeable.

I bought a set of grids for my 60 sqft filter off Ebay for around $140 delivered. I think I got the Unicel version.

The grids should be interchangeable. The non-Pentair will be less expensive. The fns manifold has a deeper socket and I don't think that it will work with the fns plus. I think that the fns plus manifold will work with the fns, but I'm not sure. I think that the bottom retainers are different. It might not sit right in the bottom of the filter tank.

Hi Rob, I am curious if you ever got an answer to this question. I am having the same problem. I ordered the less expensive part from Amazon and am seeing that the other part is significantly more expensive.. were you ever able to conclude if the fnsp filter assembly fit you fns 60 unit?
