PVC Pipe Size

Quick question - what is the "standard" PVC pipe size used in in-ground pool plumbing?

Is it normally 2"?

I used 2" on most of mine, my main drain is 1-1/2. If I had to do it over again and the price was not to much more I might use 2-1/2".

smaller pool = somewhat small pipe
very large pool = larger pipe

2" is by far the most common in an average pool.

1 1/2 inch PVC pipe has been the "old school" standard for years. Today, It seems that 2 inch PVC pipe is the "norm" for most PB.

Alot of builders are going to 2.5" and in some cases 3" even for residential pools.

I can not see needing 3" or even 2.5" on a standard pool. Likely a good idea for spa plumbing and maybe large water features or maybe on a single suction line, but beyond that seems like overkill for the type of flow rates generally needed for strictly filtration.
