Before we shot gunnite last week we told our builder that the pool looked too deep. They added some gravel and said they could correct it further in the gunnite phase. The foreman was supposed to measure it with us before he left on the day of the gunnite shoot but he didn't. It still seems too deep and at the five foot mark it seems deeper on one side of the pool than the other. I'm going to text the builder tomorrow, but can it be corrected at this point? Also remember that the water will not go all the way up to the top of the pool...measure to the halfway point on a skimmer face.
A lot depends on the details. Such as, how much too deep? How much out of level? Is the top of the bond beam at the correct height? What bottom plumbing fixtures will be affected? etc.
The builder should verify all dimensions and depths to make sure that everything is correct.

You also need to consider the thickness of the gunite and plaster. I agree too deep is better than too shallow.
