0.005% concentration of sodium hypochlorite would be 47.6 ppm FC so I don't know why they say this is lower than found in swimming pools. And that is with no CYA in the water. They are also wrong about it not being a disinfectant at such concentrations. Most common bacteria are killed faster than they reproduce when the equivalent FC with no CYA is only 0.001 ppm. Planktonic bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa on the skin and fecal bacteria are generally very easy to kill. This is why having the FC equivalent of only 0.1 ppm results in 3-log reductions in 1.5 minutes or less which is equivalent to a 50% reduction every 9 seconds.

The paper itself has not yet been published, but this link is a better one with more accurate information and does not make the claim that the 0.005% is more dilute than swimming pools nor that it isn't a disinfectant at such levels. Geez, leave it to mass media to simply make stuff up!

Troublefree does not mean Maintenancefree. It's like brushing your teeth: You can spend a couple minutes a day and pennies a week or go to the dentist once a year and spend several thousand dollars.
A pool is like a pet - you have to feed it every day, even the days you don't want to play with it!
