Good day all.
It's now the morning of day two 24hrs since top up of a new plaster pool 24 000 litres. SWG. Cartridge filter. Eco 3 speed pump. I am a feeling a little apprehensive about the start up.
That is ….I haven't a 'good kit' in hand. The pool was supposed to have been done only in a months time due to the renderers being that busy but they snuck us in and I had hoped to have a kit here before then.
However I did check out a few pool stores before now and the one I now use test with Taylor test reagents etc. for all except for an electronic tester for Ph. They also supplied my equipment and are one of the oldest and established in the area. They look after a lot of commercial and residential pools in our area. I am still deciding where to get the K-2006C kit from in the USA. AdelaidePooler has spurred me on as he has just had his arrive from the USA.
Have checked the plaster startup guide here but was wondering about TH. I had a recommendation from another builder to increase TH right away to help stop calcium leaching from new plaster which may compromise long term strength?
So wondering if there was any benefit in this approach? Would calcium still leach resulting in too high a level over time I wonder?
FWIW
I took a sample to the Pool shop. Guys at the counter sat on the fence for a bit about the TH idea and then recommended to take it up to 150 with Calcium Chloride.
They read the levels from water sample taken just after pool was filled at. Basically our tap water I suppose.
Ph 8.4 Meter actually read above 9? They did encourage slow intro of chlorine so may have dumbed it down for their software? Something like a cup ore two a day dependent on testing until SWG is switched on after 28days.

They suggested the following:
Day1
1.4l Liquid Chlorine
1.1kg CYA (stabiliser)
3.8kg Soduim Bicarbonate (Buffer)
Day2
360mls liquid acid (muriatic)
3.9kg Calcuim Chloride
Any feed back or help appreciated.
