    Borates and Algaecides

    Continue to LOVE THIS SITE and your dedicated help. Question: now that everything is perfect, and additionally I have added borates to 45ppm or so (BBB method) (it is GLISTENING clear), are weekly algaecides needed at all????? Thanks MB
    18000 gal. outdoor, in ground plaster pool; all day sun; 18" sand filter; 3/4 horse pump.

    I haven't used algaecides since my conversion from baquacil several year ago. Stay on top of your chemistry, and they are unnecessary unless special circumstances call for them.

    I agree with Coty! We do not use an algaecide and most folks on TFP do not use one.

    You're done SLAMing when:
    1)You lose 1ppm or less FC overnight, & 2)You have .5ppm CC's or less, & 3)your water is clear.
