Our 20k gallon pool is just about done. the pebble tech was completed and we began to fill the pool yesterday morning. Electricity will not be hooked up until tomorrow so we can't run anything ATM. The water starting turning green almost immediately during fill. Is it normal for the water to turn green this fast without everything up and running? Should it clear up quickly once we have power? Do I need to keep the teenagers out of the pool for now? Thx

Do you add any chlorine (bleach) to the water?
Generally no one should be swimming if there is not at least some FC in the water, although the dangers are low in a private residential pool.
Do you have one of the recommended test kits already? Post up a full set of results. Although realize that the CYA is zero if you have not added any yet.

Well, you need to order on of the recommended test kits ASAP (see link in signature ... realize the TF100 is the best value).
Clear green points to metal in the water ... see the article in Pool School that describes the sequestrants that you need to use to prevent the metal from causing stains.

Tap water that comes from nearby reservoirs often has a slight tint green after a few feet have filled the pool and is very normal, and is not necessarily a metal problem. The water may just need some good filtration to clear the organic matter. Swimming pool filters are generally much more efficient than local water municipalities filters are capable of.
Of course, it also could be from iron in the source water and turned green after it has been aerated by oxygen. Again, the iron precipitate will eventually filter out and adding sequestering agents will certainly help.
Tap water that comes from nearby wells is normally very clear due to natural filtration of traveling or percolating through the ground.
IMO, swimming is permissible and won't cause problems as long as the water has a chlorine residual established and is near balanced. The pebble finish is very hard at this point.
