Our pool has two skimmers (right and left) and a main bottom drain. These are controlled by three valves. Another valve controls the vacuum. We don't have any clue how to make the skimmers skim. 
They have round baskets like these: http://www.poolcenter.com/images/b-152- ... basket.jpg that the water and skimmings are supposed to be sucked into. There is just enough suction to make stuff float into the opening, but not enough to keep it there. I do not see where a Skimmer Weir would have ever been attached to prevent stuff from flowing back into the pool...
Can anyone suggest things we need to know and do to make the equipment work? We'd like to figure it out before we close the pool for the winter. (We closed the first of October last year - My girls like it cold!
