could my cya view tube be made wrong kit is taylor 2005 from the bottom up to the 100 mark is over one inch, 1/8th of a inch down from the top is the first mark 30 does this sound right. I had high cya but I have drained and refilled the 2 foot of pool water and it still says I am over 100 . how many drop does it take to fill it to the 100 mark

Yeah, that sounds right for the marks. At the 2:10 mark of this video there is a shot of the CYA markings to compare too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHzMslp6Yj0

Did you do the diluted test method to see how high over 100ppm you were or are? Anything at or above 100 will still read at 100.

If your CYA level is 90 or higher, repeat the test adjusting the procedure as follows:

Fill the mixing bottle to the lower mark with pool water.
Continue filling the mixing bottle to the upper mark with tap water.
Shake briefly to mix.
Pour off half of the contents of the mixing bottle, so it is again filled to the lower mark.
Continue the test normally from step 3, but multiply the final result by two.

For example say your actual CYA level was 150, it would show up as 100 on the test. Now that you've drain some water, maybe your down to 120, but will still show up at 100. If you do the diluted test method above and get an actual CYA reading, can figure out just how much you need to drain.

This test is not counted in drops. Just fill the tube slowly until the target goes away completely. You can dilute the sample to test it when you are high to find out the result when it is over 100.

Prepare the sample as usual and dilute it in half with distilled water. Thoroughly mix the diluted test, put it back in the CYA test bottle, don't worry about the remainder. Then fill the view tube and read as normal. Double the result.

The reason it registered that way is that you are still very high in CYA. Draining 2 feet helped, but not much. You've been using a Dichlor or TriChlor product for Chlorination for too long and this is where it came from. You can read all about this in Pool School. High CYA is a very common problem for this reason.

Your first 2' drain would have reduced your CYA by about 50%. You said you refilled and re-measured afterwards and CYA was still over 100. Your 2nd drain of 1' will have reduced CYA by 25%. Without a good ballpark estimate of how much over 100 your CYA was its still most likely near or over 100. You need to re-measure CYA using the 50/50 dilution method to see if you get a level below 100 which you would then double to get a more accurate estimate of your actual CYA level.

Once you've got a more accurate estimate of actual CYA level you'll know how much to drain to get it down where you want it in one go. Given your pool info, each inch you drain should be about 282 gallons or about 2% of your total, ASSUMING that your 13,500 gallon total is accurate. IF your actual water depth is indeed 52" your stated volume is incorrect (would be about 14,664 gallons @ 52" / 13,500 would be about right if actual water depth is 48"). As stated, your water volume is about 282 gallons per inch of depth, so figure from there and adjust percentages appropriately.
