FOUND OLD RETURN POOL PIPES IN "CAST" AGAINST WALL OF POOL

Im working on pool that has been renovated once at least.we are trying to find pipes (2 smimmers,1 polaris line,2 return lines, plus spa but we found spa pipes easy(flex)..How ever after we spent a few days jack hammering right at return line we fund that a sort of "cast" surrounds the return line pipe and brings it around the pool, right under bond beam.It is just like a plaster cast, with rim wire around it,its as old as pool.We work for anthony pools years ago and Never seen this with all digging we did....now we follow the cast pipe around steps in low end of pool, rught were euipment is and no run of this return line ! we are going to break more deck to see where it runs to equipment.
we havent yet dug up skimmers and were trying to find them in the grass as its easier, but no luck.we are worried that when we do jack hammer skimmers they might also run in this "cement cast" around pool....was this the normal back in 40,s 50,s?..there are big big rocks under neath rebar of deck right at return lins so we figured they cast the pipes to avoid digging out rocks?

also asked a rep with biscornet pools of new rochelle who are old timers since the 40,s and one rep there said it was common to do that and NOT to break the cast as its right on top of pool walls and might break integrity of pool....what to do ??? thanks anthony f.

Re: FOUND OLD RETURN POOL PIPES IN "CAST" AGAINST WALL OF PO

I'm sorry, but this may be tough to get an answer on here. Someone might know something, but there are few builders here.

Re: FOUND OLD RETURN POOL PIPES IN "CAST" AGAINST WALL OF PO

found one of two retun pipes that come out of "cement cast" literally against wall of pool.will send pics soon. Its got old grey pvc(sch 80) that is crooked(stress over years and big big rocks every where against it.).were not touching any more of the exposed return line with a "tee" right at fitting, over a foot exposed and it sits against the wall of one side of the pipe so not touching it!.we have crossed the way the skimmers should go towards equipment,(3-5 feet wide and 2 1/2- 3 ft deep and no sign of skimmer one or skimmer two plumbing. We have come to same conclusion is they ran them in a Cast too, around pool towards finally runs off to equip...Boulders3 1/2 feet wide, lol, every two feet slowing down the digging along with every 3 ft boxing of rebar on top of trench.but we found it,send pics nxt email.this is a great and pretty cool site.ive passed it on today to a few owners of westchester ny pool companys..thanks again for this thread...af
