Winterizing - what can I leave outside if anything?

Hi friends,
I have a 35,000 gallon liner pool in New York State (about 65 miles north of NYC).

I have an Autopilot Total Control SWG system that is about 5 years old.
Every year after the closing I take the whole thing apart - all the tubes, the digital controller, the chemistry controller, the flow cell, the acid tank, etc., clean everything and then store it indoors. (I also take the Polaris booster pump inside for winter storage).

The question is, do I really have to go to this extreme, or can I leave certain parts together and/or outside over the winter? What do you all do to winterize your systems?

Thanks for your advice!
Elise
