How should I disable my nature2?

I'm converting to BBB. But I have a nature2 system. I've removed the trichlor pucks from the chlorine dispenser, but I am left with the nature2 cartridge. It has to be installed as without it there is a hole in the top of the unit.

My question - should I just leave it in and do BBB with it, or should I take my hacksaw and cut off the bottom two thirds of the cartridge?. That way I will still be able to seal up the system but the business end of the cartridge will be gone.

I think I already can guess the answer... :-D

I think others have cut open the bottom to dump out all the metal. There are a few cases where it broken on its own and all the metal pellets ended up all over the pool

If it will work by cutting down the cartridge then go for it. You may want to re-plumb that section in the off season.

I there are a row of perforations along the top - that's where I will cut.

I'm draining the pool to about 40% right now. The fun is just beginning.
