How do I add a second suction point?

Not sure if this is the correct place for this but here we go.

I am about to undertake a refurb of our pool and before I resurface, I would like to add both a light and a second suction point for an automatic cleaner at least. It currently has the skimmer, a floor suction point via the skimmer, and two return jets. That's it. I will be moving the pump/filter to the back of the summerhouse (when it's built) when I fit the heating and SWG so a re-plumb will be on the cards. I will expose the exisiting points at the back of the concrete, then cut off and join the new pipe.

I assume I can drill/jackhammer a new point in and then epoxy/grout the pipe in position, make watertight then resurface?

I am also going to add a light or two(there are none at the moment), the LED surface mount ones look good but the cabling is an issue. I figure I can chip out a channel for a conduit and do the same with epoxy/grout, but how does it need to go? I'm assuming it just goes above the waterline, so just under the paving, but there will not be a niche so will future light changes be difficult?
Does anyone have any recommendations as to anything else to add in? I'll leave a plugged branch off both the input and output lines incase I want to add a waterfall or whatever. Any other suggestions?

I'll post pics as I go, should be a dramatic transformation from 80's to modern if all goes to plan. I am a carpenter by trade, formwork specialist and general do-it-yourself handyman on most fronts so I'll do what I am capable of doing by myself, and employ trades as required.

Thanks for reading!

If you are going to dig, yes, there shouldn't be too much trouble adding in another suction port to your pool. A 2-1/2" (65 mm) coring drill would probably work, then secure the new port to the pool with hydraulic cement.

I don't see a problem with using a surface mount LED light to the pool, with running the wires in conduit buried in a notch to the top of the pool wall. Depending on how the light is constructed, you may be able to put a waterproof connector just out of the conduit either in the light or in a junction box above grade away from the pool. Personally, I'd go with a low voltage style light, just to keep mains voltage that much further from the pool.

All in all, it looks like you have a good handle on what you will need to do.

Looking forward to the pics of your progress!
