What is the best way to introduce chlorine to the pool. with or without the pump running, around the sides or directly over the return.

If you do much reading of the posts here you'll see that without exception, it's recommended that it be added in front of a running return.

And let the pump run for about an hour AFTER adding any chemicals ... a quick brushing can also help ensure the chemicals mix and do not sit on the bottom.

I start off really slow until I see the stream moving the chlorine away, then speed it up just a little. I dose at night and leave the pump on until morning.

Thanks for your help I know it can be frustrating to you experts when the same questions are asked time and time again, but I was unaware of the search box and anyway personal contact is always better makes me feel human.

I normally say to pour it a stream less than the diameter of a pencil in front of a running return. Letting the pump run for at least an hour is a good plan. If you need to add chlorine and then measure your FC, like in a SLAM, this would be a good process.
